Comprehensive Consulting for Inclusive Nutrition and Care
In addition to being a dietitian and speaker, I also offer one-on-one consulting services for clinicians. My clients include therapists, dietitians, coaches, doctors, occupational therapists, and more. I frequently consult on specific cases or clients, audit and update forms and business policies, and help identify issues that might be alienating queer, trans, and neurodivergent clients. This includes ensuring that office spaces and online presences are inclusive and accessible.
I specialize in consulting on issues related to LGBTQIA+ identities, particularly trans and other gender-expansive identities, neurodivergence, ARFID, medically acute outpatient clients, harm reduction, disability, and food insecurity.
You Don’t Have To Be Malicious To Do Harm
A lot of people seek me out when they encounter their first trans or gender-expensive client. That’s good! It’s a great starting point, but it often opens the door to a deeper examination of general policies, procedures, and assumptions. There’s a lot to unlearn from our education as clinicians, and it’s crucial that we keep learning, growing, and evolving both as people and as professionals. I’ve even been shocked to find outdated, unaffirming terminology and forms in my own practice! There are things I’ve updated in my brain and in my day-to-day practice, but somehow neglected to update on my website or forms. It’s a constant process of growth and adaptation.
Traditional structures for eating disorder care are not designed for neurodivergent and queer folks. ED treatment centers are ineffective at best and are frequently actively traumatizing, leaving clients worse off than when they arrived. If you’re here, you probably understand that. If you’d like to learn more, check out my blog post: “Does Eating Disorder Care Really Need to Be Inclusive? Aren’t Neurodivergent, Queer, and Gender-Expansive Folks Just a Minority?"
So you understand the importance of inclusive, affirming care for neurodivergent, queer, trans, and gender-expansive folks. But we shouldn't stop there. Sure, it’s easy (or easier) to see the damage done to vulnerable populations, but queer and neurodivergent people aren’t somehow more deserving of bodily autonomy than others. The systems we accept as default harm everybody. It’s time to think of clients as people, not as populations somehow more or less deserving of privacy, autonomy, and personhood.
